Siena’s new home for student life.
Siena students crave being with one another – it is how they develop a sense of community. The Sarazen Student Union (SSU) is in need of additional student dedicated space. In 2012-13, the Student Senate and the Student Affairs Advisory Committee (SAAC) worked with Student Affairs and the President’s Office to create a renovation plan that will suit the social needs of the student body.
The proposal would move the college bookstore to another location within SSU, and that space would become a new “student living room” where students could hang out, relax and enjoy their college experience.
New features include:
- Coffee shop
- Built in stage for performances
- Charging stations
- Casual living room feel

Vice President for Student Affairs
As vice president of student affairs, Maryellen Gilroy, Ed.D., oversees student life offerings like freshman orientation, student clubs and residential life activities. She believes that an involved student achieves more academically.
“If students are happy with every other experience, they’re going to be much more engaged in the classroom,” Gilroy said.
