Len Cutler, Ph.D.
Professor of Political Science
Dr. Len Cutler teaches his students using the Socratic method. Each day he and the students work from the casebooks that 98% of law schools use. He initiates a dialogue with them. He challenges them, and not just about the facts of the case and the decisions that are made, but to think critically about how the law functions and impacts society.
Siena’s Pre-Law Program began in 1999. Since then, students have moved on to law school, become practicing attorneys and given back to Siena by working with students as coaches for the Moot Court Team or as members of the Mentoring Network.
Cutler, who has taught at Siena for 43 years, is Siena’s only professor to win all three major faculty awards (Jerome Walton Award for Excellence in Teaching, Raymond Kennedy Excellence in Scholarship Award and the Matthew T. Conlin, O.F.M., Distinguished Service Award). For him, it’s most gratifying to see students become his peers.
“Unquestionably, the greatest moment for me is when our students communicate with me as alumni and they tell me how Siena has made a difference in their lives. That’s truly rewarding,” Cutler said.
